Metamusic

Unlike Wentworth, I see no reason not to admit that the lads are not the first practitioners of metamusic, but only the greatest. In fact, not being the originators seems more metamusical than being the originators. For example, who is more literary – the great writers of the twentieth century (okay, assuming there are any) or the first Viking to use runes to scratch crude notes into pieces of wood or bone?

As one of the metamusicians who are nearly as great as the Anachronisms I suggest Duke Ellington. Certainly when I first heard "Creole Love Call" I asked "What the hell are they doing?"

Dixie Hummingbirds – first gospel group (or musical group of any kind) to jump into the audience. I'm sure some of the people present wondered what was going on.

And of course the Nihilist Spasm Band.
